SLO5, ARTIFACT 6:
Professional Development Plan

I created this plan during my first semester as an MLIS student and later revised it during the Capstone course. I included it here to illustrate how I plan to develop my professional skills and move forward in my career over the next fifteen years.
Writing this plan gave me the chance to think through the advice offered by my UNCG professors, other established library professionals, and several of the supervisors I have had throughout my work life. Nearly all of them have stressed the importance of continuing education, conference participation, and professional association involvement, all of which figure prominently in my plan. Thinking about my future goals in the context of a fifteen-year timeframe helped me prioritize them. By the end of the next five years, I hope to have developed both a strong expertise in public library outreach and a broad mastery of the competencies needed to manage a library program or department. Beyond that, I want to continue to grow professionally to the point that I can lead a library organization or resource center and contribute original scholarship to the library and information studies field.
This professional development plan has provided a starting point for my future career planning efforts. I plan to consult and update it in the years ahead, as my goals and skills evolve.
