SLO 3, ARTIFACT 6:
Blog Post on Health Policy Literacy Link to post: https://storianblog.wordpress.com/2019/04/05/needed-health-policy-literacy/ According to the ACRL Framework, "Information possesses several dimensions of value, including as a commodity, as a means of education, as a means to influence, and as a means of negotiating and understanding the world" (Framework, 2015). I wrote this blog post on health policy literacy to educate readers about health policy in the United States and other parts of the world. The post points readers to relevant Coursera courses, a health policy LibGuide, and two health policy websites. To encourage interactive learning and make the post more fun, I included a link to the Commonwealth Fund's International Health Policy Quiz. Writing the post made me more knowledgeable about the health policy resources available online and gave me experience with using blogging as an educational tool. It also made me dig deeper into some sites with which I was already familiar (such as the Affordable Care Act website) and exposed me to some sites I had not seen before (i.e., the Medical College of Wisconsin Libraries and Commonwealth Fund websites). As a library and information professional, I will need to use diverse teaching and information dissemination strategies to engage and inspire people. I plan to continue using blogging as an alternative teaching method, while exploring other digital pedagogy tools. Reference Framework for information literacy for higher education.
