SLO 2, ARTIFACT 1:
Reflections on Information Services Today Information Services Today was my first formal introduction to the underlying principles and trends in contemporary library service. The ideas mentioned in this book have shaped my thinking about service, about the role of technology in libraries, and about user needs assessment strategies. While writing my reflections on the book, I was able to see how various library competency areas relate to my past professional experiences in academia and customer service. As I analyzed the section on library functional areas, for example, I saw many parallels with my previous responsibilities as a bookseller. One requirement of these assignments was that students use secondary resources to support their opinions and analysis. This prompted me to consult outside research published in scholarly journals and by the Pew Research Center. Reading these resources increased my understanding of trends and developments within the library and information studies field. These reflection assignments cover a range of topics and draw on numerous information sources. They also include my own ideas about ways to maximize service to library users and other information seekers. I expect to refer to these reflections often during my time as a library and information professional. |
